We were lucky enough to have another local resident, Mrs Hogarth, come into school to talk to us about the old Preesall salt mines. She talked to us about how the salt mines worked and the uses of salt and then we went to explore the area where the mines existed and the old branch lines for the train which helped to transport the salt from Preesall to the rest of the UK and the world. The children were amazed to see Acres Pit - the large acre hole which appeared one day when the land began to subside!
